Welcome to the Western Australian International
Dragon Association (WAIDA).
Much has been written about the Dragon - the graceful hull that
is timeless in its elegance, a powerful sail plan that gives lively
performance and a fine tuning capacity that allows sailors to demonstrate
their skill and ability in tight fleet racing. There are several
articles in linked sites that describe the design and development
of the dragon since its introduction in 1929.
The Dragon sailors in Western Australia are fortunate to be based
at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, situated on Keane's Point on
the Swan River. This magnificent facility is the home of a club
that provides great resources and competitive opportunities.
Sailing is mainly conducted on Melville Water, up-river from the
club. Conditions on most Saturday afternoons consists of temperatures
around 30 degrees C and a 15 - 20 knot "Fremantle Doctor"
- Dragon sailing heaven.

This association is responsible for managing the affairs of the
International Dragon in Western Australia. The group is affiliated
with the International Australian Dragon Association (AIDA) which
in turn is affiliated with the International Dragon Association
(IDA).
The aims of the Association are:
1. To manage the affairs of the Association in Western Australia.
2. To participate in the management and promotion of the Dragon
across Australia though the AIDA.
3. To engage with Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in the organisation
of club racing and the International Classes and State Championships
annually.
